Use a light to medium grit sandpaper to scour the surface of the floors before painting linoleum, being sure to cover every part of the floor, even in edges and corners. After cleaning and repairing the linoleum thoroughly, you are ready to rough it up. This removes any remaining traces of wax that you may not be able to see and roughs up the surface enough to grip the paint.
What you need to paint linoleum flooring: I used a latex porch/patio paint. Use the right base paint, (it should be different than white, to show the grout lines), and choose the white and two other colors, maybe two different shades of grey.

We’ll go over each step more thoroughly but your very first step for the base coat is to choose a color, or if you’re planning to stencil your floors, 2 colors. You must use a couple of coats to create a smooth surface for the linoleum. Clean floor and tape around the edges.
